Cannabis: a rapidly maturing industry

Cannabis, an annual flowering plant, is native to Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The plant has psychoactive (affecting spirit) properties and is used for industrial, recreational and medical purposes. The three most common types are Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica and wild cannabis. Marijuana grows in hotter climates, with longer days and plenty of sunshine. Therefore, it first appeared in countries near the equator, such as Colombia, Mexico and Thailand. These plants are generally 8-12 feet long and have long, thin, fingerlike leaves that help them capture as much sunlight as possible. They take a long time to grow, but the yield is high, so planting is rewarding. They bloom in autumn, when the nights are longer and they die soon after flowering.
